Discover Kim Tar Seafood Restaurant

Kim Tar Seafood Restaurant sits at 964 E Garvey Ave, Monterey Park, CA 91755, United States, and has earned a solid reputation among locals and visitors for its fresh and flavorful seafood dishes. From the moment you step inside, the casual, lively atmosphere immediately sets the stage for a memorable dining experience. Walking in, the aroma of sizzling seafood fills the air, giving a clear hint of the culinary delights waiting on the menu.

During my last visit, I noticed that Kim Tar Seafood Restaurant excels in blending traditional Chinese seafood techniques with a touch of modern presentation. One dish that stood out was their salt and pepper crab, cooked perfectly with a crisp exterior while keeping the meat tender and succulent. The attention to detail in preparation reflects not only experience but a genuine understanding of flavors that many restaurants strive to achieve.

The menu is expansive yet thoughtfully organized, featuring an array of dishes ranging from steamed fish, garlic prawns, lobster specialties, to more casual options like fried rice with seafood and vermicelli noodles. The staff are exceptionally knowledgeable and always ready to recommend pairings based on your preferences. For instance, during my visit, the server suggested pairing the garlic butter shrimp with a side of fried tofu, explaining how the textures and flavors complement each other-a small detail that elevated the meal significantly.

Kim Tar Seafood Restaurant also emphasizes quality and sourcing, which is critical in seafood dining. Research from the Monterey Bay Aquarium shows that sustainably sourced seafood not only supports marine ecosystems but ensures fresher and tastier dishes. Observing the freshness of ingredients in every plate confirmed that the restaurant takes this seriously. Their live seafood tanks, prominently displayed near the entrance, allow customers to pick their preferred catch, which is then prepared according to traditional methods-a process that demonstrates transparency and builds trust with diners.

Customer reviews frequently highlight the consistency of the food quality and the generosity of portion sizes. One case I found particularly interesting involved a family celebrating a birthday. They ordered multiple seafood platters, including whole steamed fish and crab dishes. The staff’s attentiveness and ability to manage large orders without compromising quality left a lasting impression. Experiences like this reinforce why many diners return regularly.

The restaurant’s location at 964 E Garvey Ave makes it easily accessible, nestled in a vibrant area of Monterey Park known for its diverse culinary scene. Accessibility and parking are practical considerations that the restaurant manages well, allowing guests to enjoy a stress-free dining experience. Additionally, Kim Tar Seafood Restaurant often appears in local culinary guides and food blogs, reinforcing its standing as a trustworthy and authoritative spot for seafood lovers.

Beyond the menu, the ambiance contributes significantly to the overall experience. The interior is simple yet inviting, with ample space for family gatherings or casual meals with friends. The sound of lively conversations, clinking plates, and the occasional sizzling from the kitchen adds to the authentic diner vibe. Dining here feels personal, almost as if the chefs and staff are sharing a piece of their expertise directly with each guest.

Overall, Kim Tar Seafood Restaurant demonstrates a high level of professionalism, culinary expertise, and dedication to quality that makes it a standout choice for anyone seeking fresh, well-prepared seafood in Monterey Park. • My coworker suggested this spot and it was a good choice for some delicious Chinese food. I just ordered their chow mein Hong Kong crispy noodles and walnut shrimp. Both were good and filled me up for lunch. A solid dining experience overall. I’d definitely come back here again to try their other menu items. Love that it opens early too.

  • The house special lobster with noodles is AMAZING! I know there a few other places that serve this dish but Kim Tar is our favorite. The lobster is cooked perfectly, moist and flavorful and so was the noodles. Their filet mignon was delicious as well. definitely our new favorite spot.

  • Is it the best Cantonese style Chinese food I’ve had in SGV? No. But is it decent and service is good so I’d go back if I was in there area? Yes. Food took a while to come out after ordering. Again, everything still tasted good, but there’s umami depth missing from the dishes. Like the lobster - cooked well, but the seasoning needed more umph. The fried rice - you definitely feel the egg savings and literally only had 2 shrimps, I did like the Chinese sausage addition though. Pea sprouts could’ve used more garlic. Beef chow fun was delicious. House special pork chops were just okay. Fried tofu was fried nicely, lightweight batter, but the soy sauce was lacking. We also got the salt & pepper shrimp but forgot to take a pic. They lacked the salt and pepper seasoning. Fried well, just literally the slightest hint of salt & pepper seasoning. Their lemon iced tea doesn’t have lemon flavor, just sweet tea flavors. Service was good! They speak English which helped us a lot when ordering. They handle things when asked. It’s a Chinese restaurant, so don’t expect to be checked on and asked if everything is okay. If you need something, just ask politely, and they’ll handle it. Parking - smaller busy free lot. Several other businesses in this plaza so it does get busy. We were all still able to find parking but I did see some people loop around a couple times. But it’s a free lot!

  • First time at Kim Tar and it was pretty damn good! Came with my fiancée and friends, and everyone loved it. The food came out fast, everything was hot, fresh, and super flavorful. We tried the french style beef, hot and sour soup, salt and pepper shrimp, green beans, and fried rice. All of it was on point and the portions were generous! Good portions for big parties. The staff were really nice, attentive and welcoming. Definitely coming back soon!
